About the Exhibit
Beyond Cancer Art Project 2007 — Celebrating
the Triumph of Early Detection — was co-sponsored by the
Pacific Art League
and the Canary Foundation.
The exhibition's theme was to raise awareness for early detection
and to allow artists whose lives have been affected by cancer
to artistically express the complicated dimensions of living with,
through and beyond cancer. Selected pieces were displayed at the
Canary Annual Cancer Symposium at Stanford, the Pacific Art League
in Palo Alto and at the San Jose Grand Prix fundraiser benefiting
Canary Foundation in San Jose.
The Silicon Valley Art Museum
is pleased to present “Beyond Cancer”, an exhibit
by artists whose lives have been touched by cancer. The anguish
of cancer is palpable in these evocative images and their artists’
statements.
The exhibit falls outside of the Museum’s
usual focus of presenting art that explores the impact of technology
and science on works of art. Nevertheless, the Museum believes
that the exhibit will be of interest to the public and should
be broadly accessible through the Internet. From time to time,
the Museum expects to present other exhibits that are of special
public interest.
The Museum would also like to express its
appreciation to the Pacific Art League and the Canary Foundation
for sponsoring the exhibit and for their cooperation and support.in
bringing these images to SVAM and our visitors.
